Bringing affordable homes to Preston

The St Martins development in Fulwood, Preston, brings 14 properties to the area through the Government Rent to Buy initiative.

Rent to Buy helps tenants in England save for a deposit to buy a home, by offering properties at a discount. The scheme gives people the option to rent a newly built home at approximately 20% below the market rate for up to five years (exact period of time varies by property). During that time, there is the option to buy the property or to buy part of the property under a Shared Ownership scheme. At the end of the period, tenants can either buy part of the property or move out.

The £2.8 million development, consisting of five three-bedroom houses and nine two-bedroom apartments, will be managed by Regenda Group property specialists Redwing with construction provided by M&Y.

Built on the former St Martins Parish centre in Fulwood, Preston, the development provides brand-new contemporary housing alongside a new chapel and community hall for Broughton Parish, developed in partnership with the local community.

Louise Nicholson, Branch Manager at Redwing, said: “We’re delighted to launch our latest new development, St Martins. Not only does this development provide much needed, high quality, and affordable housing, but it’s been a brilliant regeneration project for the local community. The Redwing team have enjoyed working with our partners at M&Y Maintenance and Construction to bring these homes to market and are excited to start welcoming tenants and families into their brand-new homes!”

Chris Mellor, Construction Director at M&Y Maintenance and Construction, said: “St Martins is a really exciting development, and we’re proud to be involved in bringing these stunning, energy efficient homes to market. M&Y is a well-established construction and maintenance company, so the future residents of these homes can be assured they have been built to the highest standards. Alongside these houses and apartments, we’ve been working closely with Broughton Parish to build a chapel that will be the heart of this new community, donating to many of their initiatives along the way.

St Martins is built for modern living. From energy efficient technology including air-source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points that reduces energy bills for tenants and helps to work toward net zero targets, to contemporary interior layout designs with high-quality fixtures and fittings from lead manufacturers.
